Photographing a Stem Cell Rock Star!

Dr. Hans Keirstead is a visionary, a rebel, and an all around nice guy.

Utilizing his talents to help cure everything from spinal cord injury to poor vision, Dr. Keirstead is certainly someone with the potential to change the world.

Photos shot for the latest issue of Orange Coast Magazine.

Bob the Pilot

I can’t believe I never blogged about this guy back when I photographed him.

He flies those banner ads you see hovering above you at the  beach or county fairs.

He also let me fly his stunt plane.

Dolphins On the High Seas

Here are some outtakes from a recent Orange Coast Magazine Shoot. The issue comes out in March, but I kinda just wanted to share these.

Tommy Tallarico for Orange Coast Mag

Tommy Tallarico

My last assignment for Orange Coast is on the shelves now.

I used to watch this guy review video games on a little underrated show on what was then TechTV.  I had no idea he was the musical genius behind Earthworm Jim and other games of my youth.

He’s a big kid at heart, and his home is filled with the same kind of movie memorabilia I used to (and still secretly) wish for while perusing Sharper Image catalogs.  He also owns a lifesize Tron lightcycle.

Click on through to the article, it’s an interesting read if you’re at all interested in old video games.

Tranquil Tea Lounge

Had a meeting with Orange Coast Magazine a couple months ago, and on stifling summer drive back to LA with a broken air conditioner (barefoot, uphill, both ways, in the snow) I received my first assignment with them via email. The issue is out on shelves now and has some great info on OC nightlife if you’re out in that direction.

Stay tuned for more work from Orange Coast!

The brother sister team that own and operate Tranquil Tea Lounge in Fullerton have an awe inspiring selection of specialty teas to choose from. It’s a welcome change of pace from the impersonal caffeine machine that is Starbucks and has delicious salads and sandwiches to boot.

Nothing like going back to basics.

First off, sorry I haven’t updated in a while.

I’ve been working on putting together a new portfolio and getting all my promotional materials off to their various printers.

Found this on Wired.com.

Photographer Clay Enos (All those great Watchmen images) hangs out in San Francisco with a sheet of white paper and a 50mm.  No lights, no crazy telephoto zooms, no models, just him and the unassuming public.

It’s great to see things like this that make you just want to go out and photograph the world.  Maybe I’ll give it a go one of these weeks.

Alfred Eisenstaedt’s Scientists

I always knew about Eisenstaedt’s “The Kiss” and his iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe, but I had never seen his photos of these famous scientists until just now.  They’re amazing.
