Tommy Tallarico for Orange Coast Mag

Tommy Tallarico

My last assignment for Orange Coast is on the shelves now.

I used to watch this guy review video games on a little underrated show on what was then TechTV.  I had no idea he was the musical genius behind Earthworm Jim and other games of my youth.

He’s a big kid at heart, and his home is filled with the same kind of movie memorabilia I used to (and still secretly) wish for while perusing Sharper Image catalogs.  He also owns a lifesize Tron lightcycle.

Click on through to the article, it’s an interesting read if you’re at all interested in old video games.

Derringer Cycles – Part 2

Remember that post not too long ago about Derringer Cycles?

I spoke with creator Adrian Van Anz and worked out a photo shoot with him.

Just finished that earlier today with some studio shots of the bike, studio portraits of him, and a quick on location environmental portrait.

Photos to follow soon.

Chiyo’s Chair

Chiyo, a 5th term product design major contacted me to photograph a chair she had made.
It’s pretty nifty, uses the sides of the chair and ottoman as display cases.

The shoot itself was a little bit of a challenge in that it’s a white leather chair, and she wanted to have it contrast with a black background.

It took a couple extra strobe heads just to get detail in the black carpet while still maintaining enough detail in the white.

Here are some shots.

The Benefits of Collaboration

step_cover1A while back I was lucky enough to be introduced to a great graphic designer by the name of  Owen Gee.  We proposed a trade of services and in return for shooting his books, posters, and branding packages, he would give a much needed overhaul to my identity system.  After he graduated he was chosen as one of Step magazines top 25 emerging talents, and of course he couldn’t have any old iPhone photo published next to his name.  Congratulations Owen!
