Derringer Cycles – Part 2
Mar 29
Remember that post not too long ago about Derringer Cycles?
I spoke with creator Adrian Van Anz and worked out a photo shoot with him.
Just finished that earlier today with some studio shots of the bike, studio portraits of him, and a quick on location environmental portrait.
Photos to follow soon.
High Design in the Outdoors
Feb 24
Here’s a couple of shots from a project I’m working on.
I took a trip to REI in Arcadia and perused the shelves for anything that looked remotely interesting to shoot, and instead, what I found were these amazing items which no longer looked like the function over form tools I remember from my scouting days, but had integrated high design into increased functionality and most importantly for backpackers, less weight.
I took these into the studio and did a day long shoot with all the items I picked.
Two of my favorites.

Look at the detail.

Derringer Cycles
Feb 3

I am by no means a motorcycle rider, fanatic, or junkie, but I feel drawn, especially by the physicality of vintage machines and culture. That’s why these Derringers really tickle my fancy. Inspired by old board track racers which were nothing more than an engine attached to a bicycle frame, these pedal/engine powered machines really look amazing. And you don’t need a motorcycle license to ride them, heck, you don’t even need to have a license.
Since I’m taking a moto-culture class at the moment, I really want to call these guys up and work out a deal to shoot some of their cycles. They definitely need some snazzy shots.
